| Spirit of the Messenger | Khutbah(sermon) given by Shaykh Abdallah Adhami. The prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was gifted as a mercy to all of creation and those who follow him are hence responsible to be merciful toward all of creation. What distinguishes a believer is a tranquil heart, a heart that can project goodness and calm because of its contentment with God. Our job now is to understand the human dimension of the sunnah and to incorporate this mercy in our lives. |

| On Blasphemy | In the first of this 2-part khutbah (sermon) series Shaykh Adhami addresses the severity of alleging that another person’s actions are blasphemous and punishable and that his honor is degraded. Taking the law into our own hands, thereby setting ourselves above the law of Allah (swt), is a dangerous matter. Moments in Islamic history depict how transgressions against Islam and Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) should be carefully and wisely addressed. In the second khutbah (sermon), Shaykh Adhami describes the dignity of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the honor owed to him. He examines the distinction between the reaction to blasphemy against the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) during his lifetime – as evidenced in the juridical rulings – and after his death as depicted in the judicial traditions. This distinction is very relevant to our modern experiences. Shariah courts judges were guided by the Prophet’s (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) example; their familiarity with his life and character granted them the sense of balance power, knowledge, and confidence that we seek. |
